Haggai

"Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger, spoke the LORD’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says the LORD."

— Haggai 1:13 Reading lensThe Reading LensEvery verse pulled to the top of a book is chosen by three questions: Where is God’s heart here? Who is He protecting? Who is being saved by the action? It marks the place where those answers come into clearest focus — a “look at this, in this book.”

About the Prophet

Haggai prophesied after the return from exile, when the people had rebuilt their own paneled houses but left the LORD’s temple lying in ruins. His message is short, blunt, and practical: consider your ways, and rebuild.

It worked. The people listened and resumed the work — and God’s reply was not a rebuke but a promise of presence: “I am with you.” The glory of the house, Haggai insists, comes not from its grandeur but from the God who fills it.

Two short chapters about getting first things first — and the assurance that the latter glory will exceed the former.
