2nd Chronicles

"Don't be afraid, and don't be dismayed because of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's."

— 2 Chronicles 20:15 Reading lensThe Reading LensEvery verse pulled to the top of a book is chosen by three questions: Where is God’s heart here? Who is He protecting? Who is being saved by the action? It marks the place where those answers come into clearest focus — a “look at this, in this book.”

About the Book

2 Chronicles runs from Solomon's temple to its destruction and the exile — but it ends, unexpectedly, on a door left open: the decree of Cyrus sending the people home. Where Kings tells the story as tragedy, Chronicles tells it as a call to seek God and be restored.

The hero verse is the moment a vast army marches on Judah and a Levite stands up with God's word: do not be afraid, the battle is not yours but God's. Judah goes out to meet the enemy with singers marching in front — and finds the victory already won.
