Amicus Brief

From the Latin amicus curiae — 'friend of the court.' A legal brief filed by a non-party who has a relevant interest in the outcome of a case. A mechanism by which advocacy organizations, medical associations, or other interested parties can introduce evidence or legal arguments into litigation they are not parties to.
